impedance
n 1: a material's opposition to the flow of electric current;
measured in ohms [synonym: {electric resistance}, {electrical
resistance}, {impedance}, {resistance}, {resistivity},
{ohmic resistance}]

Impedance \Im*ped"ance\, n. [Impede -ance.] (Elec.)
The apparent resistance in an electric circuit to the flow of
an alternating current, analogous to the actual electrical
resistance to a direct current, being the ratio of
electromotive force to the current. It is equal to root{R^{2}
X^{2}}, where R = ohmic resistance, X = reactance. For an
inductive circuit, X = 2[pi]fL, where f = frequency and L =
self-inductance; for a circuit with capacity X = 1 [div]
2[pi]fC, where C = capacity.
[Webster 1913 Suppl.]

  • Electrical impedance - Wikipedia
    In electrical engineering, impedance is the opposition to alternating current presented by the combined effect of resistance and reactance in a circuit [1]
  • Electrical Impedance: What is it? (Types Examples)
    The page shows the basic definition of impedance, physical significance of impedances and representation of different forms of impedance, including impedances of series and parallel RL, RC and RLC circuits
  • Electrical impedance | Definition, Symbol, Units, Facts | Britannica
    electrical impedance, measure of the total opposition that a circuit or a part of a circuit presents to electric current Impedance includes both resistance and reactance The resistance component arises from collisions of the current-carrying charged particles with the internal structure of the conductor
  • Impedance and Complex Impedance - Basic Electronics Tutorials and Revision
    Impedance is a value given in Ohms that is the combined effect of the circuits current limiting components within it, such as Resistance (R), Inductance (L), and Capacitance (C)
  • What is electrical impedance? | Definition from TechTarget
    Impedance, denoted as Z, is an expression of the opposition that an electronic component, circuit or system offers to alternating or direct electric current Impedance is a vector (two-dimensional) quantity consisting of two independent scalar (one-dimensional) phenomena: resistance and reactance
  • What is Impedance? - Learning about Electronics
    What is Impedance? Impedance is the amount of resistance that a component offers to current flow in a circuit at a specific frequency In this article, we'll talk about how impedance is similar to and how it differs from just plain resistance
  • Impedance- Definition, Symbol, Unit, Formula - Electrical Volt
    In this article, we will study the concept of impedance, complex impedance, its unit, and the formula for RL, RC, and RLC circuits Here, we will also derive the expressions of impedance for different types of AC circuits
  • Understanding Impedance - Digi-Key Electronics
    Impedance, often symbolized by Z, is a comprehensive term that describes how a circuit element restricts the flow of alternating current (AC) It’s a bit more complex than resistance, which applies to direct current (DC)
  • What is Impedance? - The Tech Circuit™
    Impedance (Z) (also in OHMS) is the combination of all resistances and reactances in a circuit It can contain just resistance, just capacitive reactance, just inductive reactance, or any combination of the above
  • Impedance - HyperPhysics
    Impedance While Ohm's Law applies directly to resistors in DC or in AC circuits, the form of the current-voltage relationship in AC circuits in general is modified to the form: where I and V are the rms or "effective" values The quantity Z is called impedance For a pure resistor, Z = R
