    Dazed-And-Confused, As you stated, and as seen here , the difference in the controller is that 8GB cache memory size In my opinion, with the load you will have on the server, I don’t think you would notice a substantial drop from using the H730p Also on a side note, if in the future you decide to upgrade you can do so going up to the H740p, just not back down Let me know if this helps

    As far as I remember, even in Non-RAID mode, the H730 Perc controller reports RAID bus type, and it only partially passes HDD information (SMART should work, as well as Serial, Part Number, etc ) However, it might not support other features like TRIM UNMAP So it might work, but it is not the best

    The main thing the H730p has vs the H330 is a fancy RAID controller and 2 GB cache to go with it Neither of these are used when it's flashed to IT mode (certainly not the RAID controller, and I'm pretty sure the cache gets disabled), so go for whichever is cheaper Or if you have the option you, get an HBA330 to start, so it's already in IT mode
